annoying bailey

I can't wait until she is a teenager so I can annoy her every day like this.

Here is a gchat I had with her just now.  Everytime I typed "poop" her computer chimes.

Friendly reminder

Bailey is gone with a friend today so I left her this nice note on the sidewalk just so she doesn't forget.

Bailey's 10th Birthday Party

Bailey turns 10 in a few weeks.  She chose to have an Olympic themed birthday party.  I know the Olympics are over but we only missed it by days.  We had a fairly narrow window to have the party because Bailey's good good friend is visiting from Georgia this week. 

We had all of the "athletes" choose countries to represent and they colored their own paper flags.  We also pinned their country to their shirts.  The events we had were:

Shotput:  Throw a soft 5lb exercise ball.
Javelin:  Throw a broomstick.
Tug of War
Long Jump
Hurdles:  We made hurdles out of pool noodles
Basketball:  Free throw competition
Gymnastics:  This was optional and was for the girls to showcase their talents.
Marathon:  Run around the block (should have been optional in retrospect)

We then had ice cream cake (made by Bailey and Sarah) and awarded medals to all of our winners.  Nick went through the score sheet and announced some highlights from each athlete.  We also added up all of the super secret points and awarded homemade medals to our gold, silver and bronze participants.  Bailey got silver.  Everyone who didn't get a gold, silver or bronze, got a participation medal which were pretty cool because we had them printed especially for the party.  We also had special invitations printed at the WalMart photo lab.  After thinking about the invitations they are totally copyright infringement, but they looked nice and were turbo cheap to have printed.

The cake was pretty cool.  Since Bailey's friend has a peanut allergy, I wanted to make the entire party nut free.  After some internet research, I consulted with the friend's parent and we had a menu:

Snacks:  Sun Chips, Cheetos and White Cheddar Popcorn
Cake:  Made from Cool Whip, Jello chocolate pudding mix, oreos and Blue Bunny brand ice cream sandwiches.
Goodie Bags:  Mini Oreo snack bags and fruit snacks

I learned that all ice cream sandwich brands are not alike.  Several are made on the same equipment that process nuts as well.

Bailey's Birthday Party 2012

Fun week for Avery

Avery is not the most graceful baby in the world.  Her left side is still tight due to her issues with Torticollis and her gait is pretty uneven.  She falls about 9 trillion times a day but that is pretty typical for any toddler.  So, on top of all of the walking-related falling, she has had some more dramatic tumbles. 

She has this little person rocking chair.  I keep a teddy bear in the chair to keep Avery from climbing in it too much.  I was on the laptop and Avery was on the floor in front of me.  With the protective shield of my laptop, Avery snuck into the chair and stood up.  Just as I caught her, she toppled out and bit her tongue with her brand new beautiful teeth.  She was bleeding on both sides of her tongue.  She recovered quickly. 

Today, Avery escaped from her crib the hard way.  I assume it was head first because her little bottom was in the air when I came to the rescue.  Avery's crib mattress was lowered to the very bottom and we still can't figure out how she got out in the first place.  She has never ever been spotted with her legs anywhere near the top rail.  Way to go Avery. 

I'm buying bubble wrap.

Toddler

As of today, we can finally call Avery a "toddler".  She graduated from first steps to walking. She is 13 months and 3 weeks old.  Earlier this week, she had no interest.  Today she toddles.

Revolving door

This summer has gone by so quickly.  We started out right in the middle of a major money crisis caused by some property tax shenanigans (which originated by an oversight by the Town, Mortgage Lender and me).  We buckled  down and were still not making ends meet.  We sold our car and paid off our property tax bill.  I took the girls for a very long trip to Ohio and pretty soon after, Nick took off for a visit with his family on Long Island in conjunction with a work trip to Philadelphia/New Jersey.  My friend Adela just came to town with her mom and 4 kids.  In a couple days, Bailey's good friend is visiting from Georgia and a day after she leaves, my mother is coming to town!  That pretty much takes us up to the start of school and football games. Wow.

Football Season

It's football season!  We've survived 2 weeks of practices and the weather has been gorgeous so far.  Avery is having a riot with the dogs and other football parents on the sidelines.  I've agreed to be Team Parent this year so I have something to do during practice.  

Bailey is one of the most experienced, biggest and oldest on her team.  She didn't make the cut for quarterback and is playing tight end again this year, but the coach is watching her closely in the hopes that they can throw her a ball during an actual game.  That would be awesome.  I am really hoping Bailey can keep up her good attitude and confidence.  I know she can do this.

Football Practice

Football practice started this week.  I got some pictures of Bailey before I was forbidden to snap any more.  This is her trying her hand at quarterback.  No, coach probably isn't going to pick her, but she got to try. 

 I posted a picture of Avery on Facebook with her ponytails.  It went over quite well so here are the others of her on the sidelines with her friend Fitch the dog who is more than happy to be smacked by Avery for 2 hours. 

Pet the Kitty

Bailey was taught to show "gentle love" to her kitties when she was 2-3.  Avery is not comprehending the concept well.  Luckily Leroy is tolerant.  As I was uploading the video, she sat right down on him and started kicking Leroy's head.  I snapped a couple photos and separated them and Leroy came back for more. 

She said more stuff

Bailey had a few good comments lately:

1.  She was examining a typewritten letter from the 1960's and says "Oh!  An email."

2.  There was a grass fire in our backyard thanks to some wayward burning wood from our fire pit.  The smell was lingering in the garage and I commented that it smelled like marijuana in there.  Bailey said:  "Dad, have you been drinking?"

3.  I was playing catch with Bailey and she said I could play in the NFL if I weren't so old.  I'm 32.

4.  Avery was flipping through a magazine and Bailey snatches it away.  I said "Let her read that!"
     Bailey replied with "READ?".  Apparently, it is against the rules to view magazines until you are literate.
