Movie Nerd

Tom Brady has always preferred a more juvenile selection of films. Elmo , The Wiggles, Barney and Clifford were her films of choice. Our VCR was zapped during a storm over a year ago and she no longer had the VHS tapes to enjoy. I have tried to introduce her to Disney movies and she has not bothered to sit through them or claimed they were scary. The only exceptions are the Pixar movies like Cars and Toy Story that don't have a villain.

After she watched Labyrinth, she got interested in the fantasy movies like the Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story and Harry Potter. Many have been interrogated by Tom Brady about these films.

Yesterday I was viewing the movie Twilight when she got home from school. She instantly guessed what movie I was watching and was mesmerized almost immediately because she just happened to come home right as the baseball game scene began. She watched the rest of the movie with me as I explained who was the good vampire and who was the bad vampire. After the movie was over she restarted it and watched the beginning that she missed. I am amazed that the Little Mermaid is too scary because it begins with a shark chase but Tom Brady can watch a mostly boring vampire movie with some mild violence and death. Then she will ask for more.

She is now relaxing on the couch watching Labyrinth yet again. All of that school and energy she had yesterday must have been too much for her. She woke me at 2am complaining that she felt ill. At 4:45am she proved it to me. I'm thankful she had the bucket handy from Sunday.

Hooray!

Tom Brady has made a miraculous recovery. She was up very early this morning chatting uncontrollably, drinking lots of water and begging for food. I am sending her to school.

Her symptoms seemed migrane-like yesterday. She wanted the TV off, the lights out and was vomiting until there was nothing left. She said she had a wicked headache which left her in tears when she was awake. When she fell asleep, we had to wonder what the difference was between sleeping and losing consciousness. When you opened her eyelids, nothing happened. We did finally shake her until she moaned once just to make sure.

We got meltaway pain reliever tablets and forced them into her mouth against her will. We don't know how well it worked because she didn't wake up again to tell us.

She is feeling so good now, I am going to put her on a bus and send her away for a few hours! I had no choice. I let her eat all of the candy from the goodie bag she got yesterday at the party. I'm sure her teacher loves an early morning sugar buzz.

Downer

This is another post that is just blah. I am almost over my cold but it basically wiped me out for awhile. Today we left Toledo at around 5:15am so Tom Brady could go to her "first Kindergarten birthday party" in Buffalo. Tom was complaining a lot about car sickness and we had to stop for fresh air and pooping more than I wanted to. About 7am fatigue got the best of me and I had to stop for sleep on the Ohio Turnpike. Tom Brady sat in the backseat playing on her Nintendo DS while I slept. I'm sure it was a sight. Not something I want to repeat, but it was necessary and revived me.

We were late for the party and Tom Brady didn't even want any cake after the pizza. She complained that the car trip home made her sick. A few hours later she finally vomited and it has been all downhill from there. Dry heaving and massive headache. She insists on sleeping on the couch with the (brand new!!!!!!!! just opened it today) TV off.

It turns out that her Grandma Larisa in Cincinnati has been half-dead sick for a couple days. Get well soon Grandma. I think Tom Brady might be enjoying some more time off from school.

Sorry for the downer post. That is how I feel right now.

I had a nice trip to Toledo and I am happy that Tom Brady waited until she got home to succumb to her illness.

Vacation Update

So my fake vacation turned out to be pretty . . . relaxing? I guess that is the best way to put it. I get sick about once a year. That means that all of the colds I would have gotten over the year gang up on me at the same time. I have spent my 3 days of solitude on the couch. Sleeping.

I get up every 4 hours for cold medicine. Then I get on the computer for awhile until I fall asleep. I tried to go out to dinner with friends one night and ended up leaving early due to gross coughing and sneezing. I guess the cold medicine affects your memory because I forgot to pay. Luckily, my friends are nice and didn't make fun of me.

I did get some laundry done and also finished a crafty project. I walked the dog. I brought in the mail. I even called some friends and coughed in their ears.

Now I am packing up and getting ready to head for Ohio for 3 days. Woo Hoo!

This is my pitiful attempt at trying to post on this blog during my glorious time of solitude. I guess you can say FAIL.

Eat your heart out Betty Crocker

Here is my fabulous masterpiece I have been working on. I know the suspense was killing you. Pattie posted a picture of a fabulous rainbow cake last month. I was impressed! I decided to try my hand at the rainbow cake.

First, I gather the ingredients.

Next, I separate the cake batter into 6 fairly equal parts.

I mixed the colors using gel food coloring to make the extra-vivid colors.

Bake, cool. . .

Stack and eventually apply icing.
Here is a close up of the color strata.

Vacation Time!

After a week or so of semi-regular blog posts, I anticipate taking a mini vacation from my child. Tom Brady is going to visit her grandparents in Cincinnati next week. Nick is going to be working in the Pittsburgh area all week. I will be home alone for a few days (GLORIOUS SOLITUDE!) until I take off for the grand metropolis of Toledo, Ohio for a couple days. I doubt I will encounter too many bloggable scenarios in the next week.

If I were a real blogger I would seek out other bloggers to submit Guest Posts about content relevant to the readers. Unfortunately, I don't think there will be rioting in the streets if this page doesn't get updated as much as usual.

On the other hand, I do have my snazzy netbook that I can blog from the road when I go to Toledo. Maybe I can review the Ohio Turnpike Service Plaza restrooms.

Anyhoo. . . I do have a really cool post all ready to publish. It has lots of pictures and I find it to be quite dramatic. I just need one more picture in order to complete the narrative. That picture will be taken tomorrow. It's kind of a big deal. Stay tuned!

silence is golden

This afternoon I was upstairs organizing pictures and Tom Brady was chattering on about her upcoming birthday party. Harry Potter this and Ravenclaw that. . . lightning bolts and sorting hats. Oh my gosh, she must have talked nonstop for 2 hours. To give you an idea of the chatter capacity of this small child, I took a stack of about 160 photos and put them in chronological order. Then I put them in order in a photo album. I also put a label on each page. What a masterpiece I created while I pretended to listen to my precious little nerdling ramble on about her birthday party that is still 6 months away.

After realizing that it was getting close to 7pm, I headed downstairs to prepare a quick dinner and get the child to bed. While I prepared dinner, she kept jumping and talking and bothering and running and hanging. She was out of control.

As we headed upstairs, Tom Brady was belting out a song at the top of her lungs because she is a professional singer. She proclaimed that her bedroom floor was now a dance floor and the light fixture downstairs began to shake. This child clearly is showing the signs of caffeination. She asked for "just a sip" of my 24oz. Diet Pepsi. I warned her of the side effects of caffiene on children and she drank the rest of the bottle under my neglectful watch.

I read her 3 chapters of a book to settle her down only to find out that the dance floor was re-opened after the book reading. More singing, dancing and more discussion about her birthday party. At 8:40pm, I got her into bed and escaped. I was so exhausted I let her sleep in her clothes because I feared I might hear the phrase "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" again. Anything but that!

Now it is almost 10pm and I am fading fast. That child wore me out. I am haggard. I am tattered. I am going to turn to Chapter 8 in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and continue reading because it is what I am reading at the moment. Oh Harry Potter how I wish I had something else to read tonight.

???

Today started out swell. The child wore green pants, shirt, undies, hair ribbon and coat. No, I didn't get a photo. You would have thought I would! It is St. Patrick's day, how could I forget? I guessed I could have done it after beast child got home from school.

Unfortunately, the child came home and started hunting for Leprechauns. I thought it was cute until I heard sobbing from her bedroom. I went up to check and she was overcome with emotion, laying on the floor. . . tears . . . snot . . . wailing. I thought she simply couldn't find a Leprechaun, but she finally shared that everyone at school got a visit from a Leprechaun and he left them gifts.

Gifts? Seriously? No Way. About this time, a neighbor calls and I inquire about this St. Patty's day phenomenon. It is true, the Leprechaun left her kids chocolate coins. Damn Buffalo Leprechaun.

A couple hours later, Tom Brady finally found a poem, $1.75 and a pack of gum addressed to her. That Leprechaun was so sneaky! He hid his gift so well it took her all afternoon to find it.

Bull Crap. I'll just leave it like that. Bull Crap.

2009 Birthday Decision

I usually don't post on the weekends, but this weekend must be so incredibly boring, I have time to sit on the computer and post to my blog. Here is an email I received from Tom Brady this morning. She has decided to postpone her College Football Teams birthday party until next year and now she wants her 7th birthday to be Harry Potter themed. This might prove difficult to get other Kindergartners all excited for Harry Potter. In the following email, she instructs me to search for "harry potter birthday". And then politely trashes my "homemade" birthdays. Maybe it's just me, but I think this email is a riot (she doesn't sign her emails Tom Brady, but you can figure it out yourself).

Hey mom Look This word up On That Thing The Blank Thing Up Near Search Because You Need to Type ( harry potter birthday)
